A grassroots Australian Charity inspiring a society that deeply values and prioritises individual and collective safety, health and well-being; promoting community led solutions to the intersecting realities that contribute to the alarming rates of suicide we experience.
WHY WE EXIST
LEARN MORESuicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 49 years. About 1 in 8 Australians has seriously considered suicide at some stage in their life and the ripple effect of a completed suicide is estimated to impact a further 135 people.Behind each of these statistics is a story. Those stories often shed light on the complex and intersecting realities that can compound and result in suicide ideation, attempts and completion. Bullying, gendered violence, domestic violence, entrenched disadvantage, discrimination, interactions with the justice and child protection system and unaddressed childhood trauma to list a few.Turn to Me is not another Mental Health Campaign that suggests the solution to poor Mental-Ill Health is for those struggling to simply speak up. We aim to bring awareness and community led change to the deeper, intertwined and often unacknowledged roots that continue to drive statistics up.
MENTAL ILL-HEALTH PROMOTION & PREVENTION PRINCIPLES
"The experiences of being only millimetres away from losing my sister forever, losing a cousin to suicide while in youth detention, seeing the spiralling impacts of gendered violence and witnessing the rippling impacts of multiple spades of youth suicide in my local community are the heart wrenching realities that have ultimately inspired the creation of Turn To Me.- CEO, Will Austin.
