A grassroots Australian charity strengthening the role of community in preventing suicide.

WHY WE EXIST

To create Communities of Care where all people experience purpose, belonging and connection, bringing to life our collective responsibility to support one another, so that no one has to carry wellbeing alone.

Because stronger communities will always be at the centre of a healthier future for Australia.

SOCIAL EXPERIENCE MODEL

Behind every suicide statistic is a story, and behind every story is a social experience.

The Social Experience Model helps us understand how wellbeing is shaped by the systems, communities, relationships and experiences that influence our lives every day.

It encourages us to look beyond the individual and recognise the role we all play in creating the conditions that support connection, belonging and wellbeing.

This understanding sits at the heart of Turn to Me's work and guides our approach to mental health promotion, suicide prevention and creating Communities of Care.

WHY COMMUNITIES OF CARE?

Many wellbeing, mental health and suicide prevention initiatives focus on specific groups in isolation. Boys. Girls. Men. Women. Students. Employees. Leaders.

While these approaches can be valuable, they don’t always reflect how people actually experience life.

The reality is that people exist within communities. Sporting clubs, schools, workplaces and community groups bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, experiences and responsibilities. These environments shape how people see themselves, how they relate to others and whether they experience connection, belonging and support.

At Turn to Me, we believe some of the greatest opportunities for prevention exist within these environments.

That’s why we focus on helping communities become Communities of Care — environments where people feel valued, supported and connected, and where everyone understands the role they can play in contributing to the wellbeing of those around them.

THE AWARENESS & BEYOND COLLECTIVE

The Awareness & Beyond Collective brings together schools, workplaces, sporting clubs and community groups that are committed to creating stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

United by a shared commitment to supporting mental health, strengthening wellbeing and contributing to suicide prevention, Collective members are helping demonstrate what is possible when communities choose to lead with care, connection and purpose.

Together, they are helping create a future where more people experience belonging, support and hope.

JOIN THE COLLECTIVE

"The experiences of being only millimetres away from losing my sister forever, losing a cousin to suicide while in youth detention, seeing the spiralling impacts of gendered violence and witnessing the rippling impacts of multiple spades of youth suicide in my local community are the heart wrenching realities that have ultimately inspired the creation of Turn To Me.
